The redevelopment of Park Lane to include an Interchange and accompanying underground station was commenced in 1998 and completed with the introduction of the Sunderland Metro Extension.
The Interchange provides for both through, and terminating bus services and its revolutionary circulation design provided for both easily and safely by segregating traffic flows. It is linked directly to the underground station.
The project was recognised by the Civic Trust and given an exemplary award – Centre for Vision award.
